Weigh-In-Motion

Weigh-in-Motion scales are the newest solution to truck weighing.

Truck weighing can be a time-consuming process when you have to drive the truck onto the scale, wait for the reading, and then drive on so the next truck can be weighed, and repeat. Weigh-in-Motion scales seek to speed up this process by allowing you to take measurements while the truck is in motion. These systems allow you to maximize efficiency by allowing rapid axle weighing of a large number of vehicles in succession. Not only are they faster, but these systems are also much smaller than traditional truck scales, leaving you more space to use for other resources.

There are both permanent and mobile solutions to fit most applications. Weigh-in-Motion scales are able to provide individual axle, axle group, and gross vehicle weights for every vehicle weighed. With their smaller sizes, they can easily be added to areas that vehicles will naturally travel through, as opposed to needing a completely separate area just to be weighed. This solution helps to eliminate bottlenecks by being installed in entry and exit points of automated gate systems by integrating the weighing process into an already existing vehicle transaction. For carriers, these systems assist them in complying with GVW and axle weight limits in order to avoid roadway damage and safety hazards.

Intercomp is one of the first companies to bring this technology to the commercial and industrial world. They take pride in the quality of their product, with everything being made in-house in their American facility. They use commercially available parts, allowing you to easily maintain your scale and replace parts as needed. To extend the life of their products, they are built to higher capacities to account for possible overloads during applications, increasing their overall durability.

Note: Weigh-in-Motion Scale Systems are not approved for use in Legal-For-Trade applications in the United States.

 Intercomp LS630-WIM

This system is fully portable, with two scale pads and four roll-up ramps, it can easily fit into the trunk of a vehicle. Its simple set up allows it to be up and running in a few minutes. The ramps provided keep axles level with the scale for higher accuracy when measuring axle groups. This system comes with a built-in readout display, allowing you to get your readings on the go. The LS630-WIM uses standard AA batteries, and also comes with a rechargeable battery pack.

  • Capacity: 30,000 lbs per pad
  • Pad Dimensions: 30.7 x 15 x 1.7 in
  • Battery Type: (4) AA NiMH
  • Battery Life: 100 Hours
  • IP Rating: IP67
  • Speed: 3-6 MPH

Intercomp LS-WIM

This scale is capable of weighing in both static and dynamic modes. It offers 0.1% accuracy in static mode, satisfying the same accuracy standard used for certified truck scales. This system is a perfect replacement for a full-length truck scale. With a depth of 12 inches, installation isn't resource-heavy. Its 13 ft weighing platform width also allows for weighing larger than standard vehicles, and is the widest model available on the market.

  • Capacity: 45,000 lb single-axle capacity (100k model available)
  • Dimensions: 162 x 16.5 x 12 in
  • Battery Type: N/A
  • Battery Life: N/A
  • IP Rating: IP67
  • Speed: 2-10 MPH

Intercomp Strain Gauge Strip Sensors

These in-ground sensors, unlike large truck scales, can also be put virtually anywhere due to their smaller size. This system is minimally invasive and can be installed in 3-inch grooves cut into new or existing pavement. They are one of a kind, in that they do not require drains a scale pit or drainage, unlike traditional in-ground scales. These strip sensors are completely sealed and completely waterproof. Without the need for any concrete pour and cure delays, these strip sensor systems are fast to install and can be operational in less than 8 hours, saving you a considerable amount of downtime. The sensors can collect data on individual wheel-weights, speed, axle-spacing, and vehicle classification. System configurations are available in 3 and 4 rows of sensors, providing built-in redundancy and multi-sample wheel weighing for improved accuracies.

  • Capable of meeting or exceeding ASTM E1318-09 Type III and COST 323 A(5) performance requirements
  • Sensor Dimensions: 3" width, available in 59", 69" and 76" lengths
  • Battery Type: N/A
  • Battery Life: N/A
  • Speed: Low, Medium, and High-Speed system configurations available
